What's the story?

This is my favourite online personality test, and here's how I scored...

Your Type is
ENTJ
Extroverted Intuitive Thinking Judging
Strength of the preferences %
22 62 100 11
Go read about it here. In most other tests I've taken I've scored as INTP or ENTP, so this one's a bit off now I think. Or maybe I've changed because the last time I took a test like this was in psychology class. I personally think INTP or even ENTP is closer to who I really am.

Post what you got as a comment, I'm pretty curious.

Edit: So I decided to google around a bit (because I have too much time on my hands) and took a few other tests, and seem to be consistently scoring INTP. Hmm....

I know this....

I need to get back into trance music. I've been listening to some of my old Ministry of Sound stuff and I'd forgotten how good it was. Anyone got any CD/album/compilation recommendations?

Anyhow, seeing as how I have too much time to kill and not enough to write about, here's my week so far.

Last Friday I spent the night with my cousins in Houston, and returned on Saturday. Mental note - never, ever take the bus to Houston again. I got lucky waiting for the bus back home from campus (good old never on time number 7), Melissa ran into me at the bus stop and I got a ride back home. Oh, and we stopped by Marble Slab too - Raspberry ice cream on a waffle cone for the win!

We got pizza at Melissa and Emily's place on Sunday for Emily's birthday. Monday I had a mock interview for one of my classes so I got all dressed up and everything. And Tuesday was when Emily, my roommate Puneet the resident jackass (confused? ask him - it's his favourite word) and I took a trip to Cheesecake Factory. I pretty much slept through all of Wednesday, and this is about where I completely lose my sense of time, but I'm pretty sure we played some CS Source that night. Oh and I beat Half Life 2 too. After a whole damn year. Thursday we got a good turkey dinner over at Bridgette's place, and Friday (which is still today as far as my body clock is concerned) I've done pretty much nothing. Well actually we made a pretty damn good chicken dinner. Puneet is a beast when it comes to that.

That just about sums it up.

Oh, and my laptop hard drive died somewhere along the line.

Cheesecake for everyone!

So we went down to Cheesecake Factory earlier today. I must admit, the white chocolate cheesecake I got was very, very good. Now it has come to my attention that there are a few people who actually do not like cheesecake. You people are on notice. But here are a few pictures I took, being the camera whore I am.

Meet Emily, the cheesecake vampire

I might be a camera whore, but say hello to the cheesecake whore

Not a bad way to start Thanksgiving break. Coming up: 5 days of nothingness.

Annoyed

I'm not someone who gets mad easily. But there are a few things, a select few things, that go right through all my layers of tolerance like an incredibly hot knife through butter.

Screw that. If there's something I learnt during the very painfully tumultuous year that was 11th grade in high school, it's that being needlessly angry is pointless. That was about when I picked up on an optimistic and hedonistic attitude that has served me well since.

Go hedonism!

I shall now listen to Green Day and play the NFS Most Wanted demo.

Closed Source Media

I might be a business major and I might be a Windows user, but the concept of open source is something I respect, and I'm a huge advocate of a general online right to privacy.

So what we have here is a bunch of conservative bloggers (which really has nothing to do with my point here, they could be communists for all I care, though I doubt communists would come up with something like this) who acquired $3.5 million in capital to fund what they call 'Open Source Media'.

Okay. $3.5m for a fucking blog? I hope those investors know how badly they've been ripped off. But that's not what annoys me. What really annoys me is this, from the privacy policy:

'Open Source' my arse. For comparison, here's the privacy policy of another very popular political blog which I frequent:
Daily Kos will not give out your information to any third parties. Period.
In addition to....

That, gentlemen, is open source.

What the huh?

So my roommate Nikhil was all excited about the electric guitar he ordered online. Sure enough, the UPS guy delivered it yesterday evening.

And by 'it', I mean an empty box. And by that I mean a box with nothing in it. Box minus guitar.

Saturday evening boredom

I literally slept for almost an entire day. Passed out at noon yesterday and woke up at 7 am today. 19 hours - count em.

And apparently I missed quite a bit yesterday. I was woken up multiple times for various reasons, but the one worth mentioning was at about 11 pm yesterday, when Nikhil and Sanju stormed into my room screaming "WAKE UP!" - or at least that's how my supposedly hypersensitive brain processed it, for they disagree with my version of events. Anyhow, that elicited a reponse of "who the fuck would wake someone up at 11 fucking pm?". Apparently they wanted my Nutella to mix with their alcohol. I'm pretty sure I said something to the tune of "fuck no". Who on earth mixes Nutella with alcohol?

That aside, it looks like I won't be doing much for Thanksgiving break. At most I'll be going down to Houston for maybe a day or two but my cousins are going to Spain so for pretty much the whole time I'm going to be here. That's actually a good thing because I'm a bit behind in a couple of classes and I need to catch up if I want to keep my 4.0, which I do.

As for the winter, I know I'm going to Dubai but it's looking less and less likely that I'll go anywhere else. So apologies to Rishi, Aksh, Ano and whoever else I was planning on hitting up during the winter break.

A final note - Aksh has been pestering me to bless her 'adopted' babies, Zen and Sara. So without further ado: Zen and Sara are hereby blessed. May they grow up to be geekier than Rishi. And seeing as how they already have a God-daddy and God-mommy. do I get to be God-uncle? Or maybe just plain God. Hmm... having Sam as your God. Now that would be a treat, wouldn't it?

LOL!

Only in Texas can you define marriage, and then prohibit it.

In case you're wondering what I'm on about, today was election day here, and Texas was voting on a gay marriage ban. Obviously, this being Texas, it passed by a lopsided vote... though on the bright side, Travis County - where Austin is located - voted against it by some 65%. Anyhow, if you read the actual text of the consitutional amendment that was being voted on....
Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.
Part (a) is pretty clear, but a plain text reading of part (b) means that the amendment does effectively what I said earlier - defines marriage, and then prohibits it. ALL of it, not just gay marriage. Where's all that strict constructionism now?

"You take the point"

Anyone who's known me long enough knows how much I've hated CS (and for the record, I'm talking about Counterstrike here, not Computer Science or that other thing from high school) for the past 3 years and how I'd basically take every opportunity to bash the game and anything and everything to do with it.

So I have a confession to make.

About a week ago, for some odd reason I decided to download and install CS Source. And I've been playing it just about every night with my roommates, including our 'adopted' roommate. (Sanju, I expect you'll be paying your share of the rent this month)

And the thing is, I actually enjoy the game. How's that for irony?

So that got me thinking, why did I hate the game in the first place? I used to play it a lot before I stopped. In fact I think I played it pretty frequently for a whole year. (at about during betas 5.x through 7.x) And the answer to that was obvious. I just couldn't stand the scene. Online, at LANs, the whole damn thing. Cheaters online. Immature 12 year olds with too much money at LAN places that have nothing better to do but scream out your location to their teammates once they die. And don't even get me started on the competitive scene. People playing for the sole purpose of simply beating the competition. It wasn't even about having fun anymore. (And on a side note, I think this is why I stopped playing Q3A/CPMA)

I got a lot more out of playing CS the past week than I ever did in that entire year. It's a lot more fun playing when your sole purpose isn't to win, and annihilate the competition.

So here's my advice to anyone wrapped up in the whole 'pro' gaming scene (and I know a few of you read this) - take some time out and start playing a random game you've never played before with a few friends. You'll be surprised at how much more fun it can be.

And that's the thought for the day.

On a completely unrelated note, I should note that playing Super Smash Bros. Melee has the same effect on your sense of time as weed in a hookah. Suffice to say that cooking while playing isn't a good idea, or you're probably going to end up with some very burnt pasta and smoke alarms going off all around your apartment.

I just thought I'd share what music I've been listening to lately. Since I rarely listen to singles, and most of my music is organized in albums, I'll list out a few albums I'm listening to. In no particular order....

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Coldplay - Parachutes
Green Day - American Idiot
ATB - No Silence
Green Day - Nimrod
U2 - Boy
Tiesto - Parade Of The Athletes
Velvet Revolver - Contraband

While I'm at it, I've linked to a certain KK's blog on the sidebar. Check it out, it's already been through the spam treatment. Also, be sure to check out Procrastinators Incorporated if you haven't already. Some very, erm, random postings on there.

Postscript

So this is one of those things no one but me cares about, but this is my blog, and to quote my very first post - I can do whatever the hell I want with it.

The other day I was watching The West Wing, which happens to be my favourite currently airing TV show. I like it, and have always liked it, because of the way it portrays American politics. It's sort of like a what could have been had a person like Jed Bartlet been elected president, instead of George W Bush. It's not an idealist show by any means, but to me at least, it has always been a show where an administration actually puts people over politics and power; I might add, quite unlike what we have today. Every episode had a message. A moral bottom line. You just have to watch 'In Excelsis Deo' from the show's very first season to know what I mean.

Right now the show is in its seventh season, and I think somewhere along the way, it lost perspective. Characters that were the anchors of the show are disappearing (not unlike Stargate SG-1, another show I like), the newer episodes seem to be getting more and more banal each time (with the exception of one episode this season - that one was pure brilliance). And I actually find it odd, because it was obvious from the middle of last season that big changes were coming, and until the very end of the season they were pulling it off nicely. Hell, the final episode was some of the best the show had to offer.

I'm just annoyed at where the show is going.

On a side note, I was watching C-Span the other day (a while ago, but I thought I'd mention it anyway - and yes, I do watch C-Span at times) and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was on giving a talk about international law. I must admit, the man is incredibly smart and made some really good points. Too bad the court's going to be overrun with Scalia clones by the time Bush's term is done. Ugh.

The only thing I hate more than hip-hop, CS and crazy right wingers

The music industry DRM whores.

There's a line, and they crossed it a long, long, long time ago. No way am I buying music that has anything to do with these bastards. Ever.

I have no respect for the corporate sluts that come up with this, the tech industry that bends over and creates more and more DRM crap, the politicians that pass legislation that chips away at far use rights and of course, artists that actually think file sharing is hurting them. Fuck you.

Note: that article might be a bit difficult to follow for the non-tech savvy, but the bottom line is this - these audio CDs install crap on your system without your knowledge. And then, that software modifies your Windows install (at the kernel level - dangerous) so that you can't detect it. This is the equivalent of a virus, except it's being distributed by the music industry, and not anti-social geeks living in their basement.
